FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

The Tinting Strength of a pigment, also known as Tinting Power or “STRENGTH”, in English, represents its dyeing capacity. This metric is crucial for ensuring the correct color and is a fundamental quality test for automotive, industrial, and decorative paints.

Understanding and controlling the colorant´s STRENGTH is essential to ensure consistent delivery of paints to customers in mixing systems (in the automotive refinishing, industrial, and decorative paints).

The conventional approach involves blending a small quantity of colorant with a substantial quantity of white base. This mixture is applied to a panel using a spray gun, and the panel is either dried or cured in an oven. After the drying process, the panel’s color is measured using a spectrophotometer using the reflectance technique. This measurement is then compared to a reference measurement stored in a computer, which is specific to each colorant.
